Introduction

Anthropic just taught Claude to animate. On October 8, 2026, Claude Motion went into beta on Claude Team and Enterprise plans: you describe an explainer, Claude builds a short animation that plays like a video, and you download it as an MP4. The twist is the engine. There's no video model inside. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes, and images, so every word, number, and beat of timing stays editable.

Within hours the video crowd plugged in. Runway, Luma, and Higgsfield all shipped "start in Claude, finish with us" paths, and Higgsfield launched Katana, a Claude Motion–powered editing tool, through its MCP connector.

What shipped

  • Name: Claude Motion (beta), launched alongside Claude Dashboards
  • Vendor: Anthropic
  • Modality: code-built motion graphics and animated explainers, exported as MP4
  • Open vs closed: closed, inside Claude apps
  • Where to run it today: Claude on a Team plan (on by default) or Enterprise plan (off until an owner enables it in Organization settings, under Artifacts)
  • Concrete fact: no generated footage and no AI-generated people. The animation is code, so you can change one word, number, or timing and the rest stays put

How it works

You ask in plain language, for example "turn this quarterly report into a 30-second explainer for our all-hands" or "animate how our pricing plans compare for the sales kickoff." Claude builds the animation from the Motion template, and you can tweak it in the editor or just ask Claude for changes. When it looks right, export the MP4.

Because nothing is diffused or sampled, there's no reroll lottery. Edits are surgical, which is exactly what motion designers love about keyframes and exactly what most AI video still struggles with.

The partner wave

Anthropic lists export paths to Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI, and Runway, with Canva and Captions coming soon.

  • Runway was a named launch partner: export a Claude Motion piece, then add generated footage, restyle scenes, and let Runway Agent assemble a longer cut around it.
  • Luma pitches the same handoff: resize your Motion animation for every format, refine it, and ship the versions.
  • Higgsfield Katana, "powered by Claude Motion," arrived the same evening. Upload a reference and build editable motion graphics, product launch videos, or aura-farming edits inside Claude via the Higgsfield MCP connector. Its launch post passed 300,000 views in about half a day.
  • fal showed a Claude Motion plus fal Claude Connector demo, so generated assets can flow into the same chat.

Try it

If you're on Team or Enterprise, open Claude and paste something like this:

Turn these notes into a 20-second animated explainer for creators. Open on a bold title card, animate three bar-chart blocks rising one by one with labels, then end on a single call-to-action line. Use a dusk navy background, lilac and aqua accents, and smooth easing between scenes.

Want generated footage on top? Add the Higgsfield connector in Claude with the custom MCP URL https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp (a paid Higgsfield plan is required, and generations use your Higgsfield credits).

Why it matters

This splits AI video into two honest lanes. Diffusion models like H3, Kling, and Seedance give you footage. Claude Motion gives you precise, editable motion graphics, the charts, type, and transitions that diffusion still mangles. The partner wave shows where things are heading: Claude draws the skeleton in code, and the video tools add the flesh.

Caveats

  • Beta, and only on Team and Enterprise for now, so there's no Free or Pro access yet.
  • It's built for explaining your own material. It won't conjure cinematic shots or people.
  • Partner tools like Higgsfield bill separately through their own plans and credits.

Conclusion

Claude Motion makes animation feel like editing a document: ask, adjust a word, nudge a beat, export. Pair it with Runway, Luma, or Higgsfield Katana when you want real footage in the mix, and you've got a surprisingly complete explainer studio in one chat.
