Introduction

Tired of opening a node graph just to say “draw this”? On Nov 2–3, KSiukee shipped the first public builds of ComfyShell (显影) — an Apache-2.0 Windows desktop shell that keeps ComfyUI under the hood and leaves you with prompt, params, and results.

The story is local image-gen without the ritual: no black console window, no graph drag, and a real gallery/editor stack on top of your portable Comfy install.

What shipped

  • Repo: KSiukee/comfy-shell (created Nov 2; topics include comfyui, tauri, flux, lora).
  • First public release v0.108.0 (11:51 UTC Nov 2) labeled 首个公开版本, with a portable comfy-shell.exe (12 MB) plus SHA256SUMS.txt.
  • Patch v0.109.1 (~06:08 UTC Nov 3): upscale history + unique output names, gallery = history ∪ on-disk project images, project-switch draft load/save fix, and +31 prompt presets scrubbed from DiffusionDB (CC0).
  • Stack: Tauri 2 + Rust frontend shell; WebView2 on Windows 10/11 x64 (unsigned — expect SmartScreen “Run anyway”).
  • Models wired in-app: Qwen-Image 2.1, FLUX.3 Klein (distilled + Base), MOSS-Image SFT/Base, plus custom API workflows — weights stay yours; the exe ships no checkpoints (MODELS.md for licenses).

Why it matters

ComfyUI is a workflow editor. 显影 is the “daily driver” skin:

  • Silent ComfyUI launch / health check; generate queues until the engine is ready (up to ~5 minutes).
  • Up to 10 reference images (subject/style), batch queue, model sweep, A/B compare.
  • Project-isolated gallery, favorites, trash; private projects with Argon2id + XChaCha20 vaults and a 10-minute auto-lock.
  • Built-in editor: drag-handle crop, ACR-style grade, .cube LUT, brush inpaint, 4× ESRGAN / SeedVR2 upscale.
  • Settings download/update ComfyUI via official + China mirrors with speed tests; missing workflow models listed for one-click fetch.
  • AI setup assistant (API key in DPAPI): environment check → step plan → you confirm installs / a smoke render. It touches ComfyUI only, never your project files.
  • Optional FLUX LoRA training and kohya for MOSS, plus local storyboard split via Qwen3.5 into a batch queue.

How to try it today

  1. Grab comfy-shell.exe from the latest GitHub Release and verify the published SHA256.
  2. First launch → Settings → ComfyUI: point at a portable install, or hit download engine.
  3. Settings → Workflows: download anything marked missing.
  4. Home: write a prompt, pick size/model, generate.

Want the graph back? You never left ComfyUI — 显影 is just the friendly front door.

Conclusion

If your friends bounce off node soup, hand them ComfyShell 显影: same local models, way less ceremony — and the Nov 3 patch already feels like someone actually uses the gallery daily.
