Introduction

Ideogram just shipped Ideogram Vector 1.0, its first model that outputs real vector graphics instead of pixels. Type a prompt and you get a clean, editable SVG with smooth gradients and sharp typography, or hand it an existing image and it traces a scalable vector for you. It's a closed, API-only model (no open weights), and you can run it today in the Ideogram app, through the Ideogram API, and on fal.

That last bit matters for anyone who has ever fought an auto-trace tool. Every shape lands as its own element, so you can recolor, move, rotate, or resize one piece without wrecking the rest of the design. ✨

What shipped

  • Model: Ideogram Vector 1.0 (API id ideogram-vector-1)
  • Vendor: Ideogram
  • Modality: text-to-vector and image-to-vector (SVG output)
  • Access: closed model, available in the Ideogram app and API, plus day-0 on fal
  • Text-to-vector inputs: prompt, optional reference images, aspect ratio, quality (low, medium, high), number of images, seed
  • Image-to-vector inputs: a JPEG, PNG, or WEBP up to 50 MB, with a default mode that keeps fine detail and a simple mode that draws fewer, cleaner shapes

Ideogram pitches it for logos, wordmarks, print and merch, labels, stickers, and illustrations. Basically, anything that has to look crisp on a business card and on a billboard.

Pricing

Ideogram lists the same per-SVG prices on its model page as fal does on its model cards:

  • Text to vector, low quality: $0.13 per SVG
  • Text to vector, medium quality: $0.16 per SVG
  • Text to vector, high quality: $0.20 per SVG, or $0.32 when you add reference images
  • Image to vector: $0.10 per image, in either default or simple mode

The Ideogram API also has a handy dry_run flag that validates and prices a request without generating or billing anything. That's great for checking costs before you batch a whole icon set.

Where to run it today

In the Ideogram app

Open the vector model from Ideogram's Vector model page, describe your design, and export the SVG into Figma, Illustrator, Inkscape, or any editor you like.

Through the Ideogram API

The v2 API exposes two endpoints. POST https://api.ideogram.ai/v2/svg/generate/ideogram-vector-1 handles prompt-to-SVG, and POST https://api.ideogram.ai/v2/svg/vectorize/ideogram-vector-1 handles image-to-SVG. Both are asynchronous. You get a generation_id back and poll the shared generations endpoint for a signed SVG download URL. Full reference lives in the Ideogram Generate SVG docs.

curl -X POST "https://api.ideogram.ai/v2/svg/generate/ideogram-vector-1" \
  -H "Api-Key: $IDEOGRAM_API_KEY" \
  -F prompt="A heart-shaped logo made entirely from soft green lettering on a black background. Bold, rounded letters curve to fill the heart, with an organic, handmade feel." \
  -F quality="medium"

On fal

fal put both halves live on launch day as ideogram/vector/text-to-vector and ideogram/vector/image-to-vector. Text-to-vector takes up to five reference image URLs.

import { fal } from "@fal-ai/client";

const result = await fal.subscribe("ideogram/vector/text-to-vector", {
  input: {
    prompt: "A playful cat logo with bold outlines and flat colors",
    quality: "medium"
  }
});
console.log(result.data.images[0].url);

ComfyUI

ComfyUI quoted the launch with "Coming soon to ComfyUI!", so expect a Partner Node. It isn't in a tagged release yet, though.

Prompts to try

These come straight from Ideogram's own showcase, so they're a good baseline for how the model likes to be spoken to.

A flat vector illustration of a woman relaxing in a beach chair under a blue-and-white umbrella. Warm summer light, a bright blue sky, and simple shapes capture a carefree day by the sea.

A bold, modern logo with rounded block lettering in bright orange, green, blue, and pink. Arrange the letters in a compact square on a warm cream background.

Why it matters

Recraft has owned AI-native SVG for a while, and Ideogram's typography chops make it a serious rival for lettering-heavy work like wordmarks, merch, and packaging. The image-to-vector mode might be the sleeper hit, though. At a dime per image, cleaning up old raster logos or turning a pixel generation from any model into a scalable asset suddenly costs less than a coffee.

Conclusion

Ideogram Vector 1.0 gives designers what pixel models never could: files you can actually edit. Start with the image-to-vector mode on something you already love, then push the text-to-vector prompts toward your own brand palette. Happy tracing, darlings!
