Introduction

Runway Dev, Runway's developer API, just added the Kling video family from Kuaishou. Three generations are live today: Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro for fast image-to-video, Kling 3.0 for multishot clips with native audio up to 4K, and Kling O3 for reference-driven consistency and video-to-video edits. All of them are closed models, billed in Runway credits at $0.01 each, and they sit behind the same text_to_video, image_to_video, and video_to_video endpoints you'd already use for Gen-4.5, Seedance, or MiniMax H3.

The practical win: if your app already talks to Runway, Kling is now just a different model string. No second vendor account, no second billing setup.

The lineup and what each one does

Straight from the Runway Dev changelog and model docs:

  • Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro (kling2.5_turbo_pro): text or a start frame, with an optional last frame, at 5 or 10 seconds. Text-to-video comes out at 1920:1080, 1440:1440, or 1080:1920.
  • Kling 3.0 Standard / Pro / 4K (kling3.0_standard, kling3.0_pro, kling3.0_4k): text or first-and-last frames, 3 to 15 seconds, audio on by default. Standard renders 720p, Pro 1080p, and 4K goes up to 3840:2160.
  • Kling O3 Standard / Pro / 4K (klingO3_standard, klingO3_pro, klingO3_4k): the same ratios and durations, plus up to 7 reference images on image-to-video (keyframes count toward that total) and video-to-video edits of clips up to 10 seconds.
  • Multishot prompts on Kling 3.0 and O3 through providerSettings.multiPrompt: up to 6 segments, each with its own prompt and duration, 3 to 15 seconds total.
  • cfgScale (0 to 1, default 0.5) on Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro and Kling 3.0. Lower gives the model more freedom; higher follows your prompt more strictly.

What it costs

Runway's pricing page lists credits per second of output. At $0.01 per credit, that works out to:

  • Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro: $0.12/s
  • Kling 3.0 Standard (720p): $0.09/s silent, $0.13/s with audio
  • Kling 3.0 Pro (1080p): $0.12/s silent, $0.17/s with audio
  • Kling 3.0 4K: $0.43/s, audio or not
  • Kling O3 Standard / Pro / 4K: $0.13/s, $0.17/s, and $0.43/s, whether or not audio is on
  • Kling O3 video-to-video: billed per second of your input clip

So a 10-second 1080p Kling 3.0 Pro shot with sound runs about $1.70, and the same length at native 4K is about $4.30. One small gotcha: O3 charges its full rate even when you turn audio off, so only Kling 3.0 Standard and Pro get cheaper when you go silent.

Try it: a three-shot Kling 3.0 Pro clip

Swap in your own key and prompts. This uses the multishot segments; with the default customize shot type, each segment's prompt drives its own shot.

    "ratio": "1920:1080",
    "audio": true,
    "providerSettings": {
      "multiPrompt": [
        { "prompt": "Wide shot: a lighthouse keeper climbs a spiral staircase at dusk, lantern in hand, wind howling outside", "duration": 4 },
        { "prompt": "Close-up: her weathered hands strike a match and light the great lamp, warm gold glow blooming across her face", "duration": 3 },
        { "prompt": "Exterior aerial: the beam sweeps across a stormy violet sea as a small fishing boat turns toward it", "duration": 5 }
      ]
    }
  }'

The call returns a task id. Poll GET /v1/tasks/{id} until the status is SUCCEEDED, then grab your clip from the output. Want 4K instead? Change the model to kling3.0_4k and the ratio to 3840:2160.

Conclusion

Kling on Runway Dev is less about a new model and more about fewer moving parts: multishot storytelling, 7-reference consistency, and native 4K, all through one API you might already be paying for. Draft at 720p for nine cents a second, then send your keeper to Pro or 4K. Happy shot-stacking. 🎬
