Introduction

Stylized game assets live or die on clean albedo. Meshy just put Meshy N1 Texture live on the Meshy web app and the Retexture API — a dedicated retexture path that paints a 2K base-color map onto an existing mesh from one to four reference images, pitched for game and stylized look variants.

Vendor zero-day:

on November 3, 2026 (02:38 UTC). API surface landed in the docs changelog on November 2 as ai_model: "meshy-n1". Closed SaaS, not open weights. This is a same-day game-asset texturing drop, not another mesh-from-scratch headline.

The Magic: Fast Base Color, Not Full PBR

Meshy’s launch post frames N1 as the texture mode built for stylized game assets:

  • Far fewer seams and projection artifacts than prior texturing
  • About 3× faster than Meshy 7 texturing, landing in ~20 seconds (vendor claim)
  • Clean 2K base color suited to game-dev pipelines

The API changelog is more precise about the tradeoffs. N1:

  • Takes reference images only (no text prompt)
  • Outputs 2K base color only — no PBR maps, no 4K / 8K
  • Textures meshes up to 7,999,999 faces (triangles; a quad counts as two)
  • Costs 10 credits, same as a standard 2K Retexture
  • Leaves latest pointed at Meshy 7 — you must opt into "meshy-n1"

So the product split is clear: use N1 when you want a fast albedo pass from look-reference panels; stay on Meshy 7 / latest when you need text prompts, PBR, or higher texture resolution.

Pro Tip

If your engine already owns metalness/roughness/normals (or you bake them later), N1’s base-color-only output is a feature, not a bug. If you need a one-shot PBR bundle, do not flip enable_pbr: true on N1 — the API returns 400. Call Meshy 7 instead.

Hands-on: Web Texture Mode + Retexture API

Web: open meshy.ai, take an existing model into Texture / N1 mode, and drive it with reference views. Meshy’s post says the new mode is live in the workspace today.

API: POST https://api.meshy.ai/openapi/v1/retexture with an explicit ai_model of meshy-n1 and either image_style_url (treated as the front view) or multiview_image_urls (1–4 images; first = front; other order free). You cannot combine multi-view with a text prompt or a separate style image.

Paste-ready shape from the docs:

curl https://api.meshy.ai/openapi/v1/retexture \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ${YOUR_API_KEY}" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{
    "model_url": "https://cdn.meshy.ai/model/example_model_2.glb",
    "ai_model": "meshy-n1",
    "multiview_image_urls": [
      "<front view image url or data URI>",
      "<back view image url or data URI>"
    ]
  }'

Pass input_task_id from a prior Meshy mesh task instead of model_url when the asset already lives in your Meshy history. Keep UV reuse in mind: enable_original_uv: true when the mesh already has a good layout.

Conclusion

Meshy N1 Texture is a closed, runnable 2K base-color retexture path on web + API — reference-image driven, vendor-claimed 3× faster than Meshy 7 texturing (20s), 10 credits, no PBR / no 4K–8K. For ArtRealmAI’s game-gen beat, the actionable surface is live at meshy.ai and documented at docs.meshy.ai/en/api/retexture. Reach for Meshy 7 when you still need prompts or full material maps.
