Introduction

Made a gorgeous 720p clip and wish it were 4K? You no longer have to regenerate it. Pruna AI launched P-Video-Upscale on October 29, a closed, API-only video upscaler that lifts any existing video to 720p, 1080p, 2K or 4K. It keeps the source aspect ratio, copies the audio track across, and can interpolate the frame rate up to 60fps.

You can run it today through the Pruna API and Playground, inference partners like Replicate, Runware, WaveSpeed, Scenario, Wiro, eachlabs and Tellers, and, as of October 31, a native ComfyUI partner node called Pruna P-Video Upscale (merged in ComfyUI PR #17443).

What shipped

  • Targets: 720p, 1080p, 2K or 4K. These are pixel-area presets (about 0.9, 2.1, 3.7 and 8.3 megapixels), so vertical and square clips keep their shape
  • Frame rate: keep the source rate or pick 16 to 60fps. Anything above the source rate is interpolated
  • Turbo mode: faster runs with slightly softer detail, at the same price
  • Audio: copied from the source when there is one
  • Input: up to 512 MiB per video. Output from the API is an H.264 MP4
  • Speed: Pruna quotes about 1.7 seconds of processing per second of output, depending on resolution
  • No shrinking: a clip that's already bigger than your target keeps its size and just gets enhanced

Pricing

Pruna bills per second of returned video, rounded up to the next whole second. List prices:

  • 720p: $0.01/s up to 30fps, $0.02/s above 30fps
  • 1080p: $0.02/s, or $0.04/s above 30fps
  • 2K: $0.04/s, or $0.08/s above 30fps
  • 4K: $0.08/s, or $0.16/s above 30fps

So a 5-second clip at 30fps costs $0.05, $0.10, $0.20 or $0.40 depending on target. Pruna is running 50% off for the first two weeks, until November 12 at 18:00 CET. Heads-up: a 60fps source gets the above-30fps rate even if you leave fps empty.

Pruna's own benchmark claims it's up to 11× faster and 5× cheaper at 1080p than Topaz Starlight, Topaz Proteus and the FLUX.3 Upscaler. Treat that as a vendor number until the promised third-party benchmarks from Datapoint and Rapidata land.

Length limits

The cap is on processed frames, not seconds. Above 30fps, only 30 frames per second are processed and the rest are interpolated:

  • 720p: 2,400 frames (about 100s at 24fps)
  • 1080p: 1,200 frames (about 50s)
  • 2K: 600 frames (about 25s)
  • 4K: 300 frames (about 12.5s)

Longer clips are rejected, so trim, drop the target, or lower the fps.

Use it in ComfyUI

Update ComfyUI, then search the node list for Pruna P-Video Upscale under partner/video/Pruna. It takes a video input plus three widgets: target (default 1080p), fps (default "source") and turbo. It runs on Comfy API credits, and its price badge shows the discounted per-second rate until November 12, then doubles to the regular rate. It also refuses sources above 10 megapixels unless you pick 2K or 4K.

A tidy local pattern: generate your shot at a cheap draft resolution with your favorite video model, approve the take, then pipe only the keeper into this node for the 4K, 60fps master.

Use it from the API

curl -X POST 'https://api.pruna.ai/v1/predictions' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'apikey: YOUR_API_KEY' \
  -H 'Model: p-video-upscale' \
  -H 'Try-Sync: true' \
  -d '{
    "input": {
      "video": "https://api.pruna.ai/v1/files/your-uploaded-video",
      "target": "4k",
      "fps": 60,
      "turbo": false
    }
  }'

Upload your source first with a POST to https://api.pruna.ai/v1/files, then pass the returned file URL as video.

Why it matters

Upscaling used to mean desktop software or a slow pass through a heavyweight model. A cents-per-second endpoint that keeps audio and adds smooth 60fps changes the math for AI video: generate cheap, pick your best take, and pay for 4K only once. Landing in ComfyUI on day two makes that a single node at the end of any graph.
