Roblox Q3 Letter: 80% of Top Games Use AI, Build Hits 70,000 Games and Heads to the US in December

Introduction
Roblox's third-quarter 2026 shareholder letter says more than 80% of its top 100 games used AI tools to speed up creation over the past month, and that Build, its prompt-to-game tool, has already put out more than 70,000 published games. The letter was filed with the SEC on October 29 US time, about 04:10 MYT on October 30. On the earnings call that followed, CEO David Baszucki said Build gets a broader US release in December and a global rollout in 2027.
This isn't a model drop. It's the biggest UGC game platform putting numbers on how fast AI building has taken over its creator base, and listing the game models it's training next: NPC playtesters, 3D asset diffusion and a video world model for photoreal multiplayer.
What Roblox reported
- Platform: Roblox, with its AI tools Build, Studio Assistant and the Studio MCP server
- Modality: prompt-to-game creation, AI coding and asset generation inside Roblox Studio, plus external AI agents connected over MCP
- Open vs API: closed and in-platform. Build will keep a free base tier, with paid tiers for more prompt capacity
- Where to run it today: Studio Assistant and the MCP server in Roblox Studio. Build is in alpha in New Zealand, Singapore, Serbia and Thailand, with the US next in December
- Concrete fact: more than 500,000 people have used Build and published over 70,000 games, and over 75% of them had never opened Roblox Studio
The AI numbers
The letter's adoption figures, all from Roblox's own internal data:
MetricWhat Roblox says
Top 100 games using AI
More than 80% in the past month, ranked by hours engaged
Daily asset uploads
Tripled month over month
Time top creators spend in AI tools
Tripled since Q2 (Build, Studio Assistant and external AI via MCP)
Daily users of the Roblox MCP server
Grew nearly 5x since Q2
Published games using AI
Up more than 50% quarter over quarter
Build
500,000+ users, 70,000+ published games
Two games, Break and Steal an Egg and Huss Valley, were built almost entirely with AI and both broke into the platform's top 20 by concurrent players in Q3. The letter says several games built almost entirely through the Studio MCP connector have also reached the top 20. In a survey of several thousand creators, 97% of regular AI users said it shortened their development time.
Build creators can now build, publish, check analytics and switch on monetization from a phone, and Roblox says a number of Build games already run ads and make money. In the coming months, Build games will also be playable straight from the Moments video feed.
The models Roblox is building next
The more interesting part for game devs is the roadmap. Roblox says it runs nearly 400 models across creation, safety, discovery and its economy, with self-hosted models handling 77% of requests. It fine-tunes open-weight models on its own data for game logic, world building and assets.
The letter names four creation projects:
- NPC models trained on human gameplay. Its Data Model Recording platform captures play as 4D spatial data, down to line of sight, weapon use and hit locations. Roblox wants to use that data to train human-like playtesters and NPCs that are cheaper to run than frontier models. One of their jobs: playtesting games and feeding notes back to the coding agent.
- 3D asset generation via diffusion, plus scene verification models that check generated worlds.
- Art agents for UI, UX and visual assets, which Roblox says are meant "to avoid generic AI-generated output."
- Roblox Reality, which pairs the engine and cloud with video world models for photoreal multiplayer. Early access is planned for the first half of 2027.
Baszucki said on the call that the Build and Studio Assistant harness already routes prompts across several models for code, 3D scene generation and audio, with avatar models coming online.
Import any game, publish anywhere
Two bigger bets sit on top of the tools. The Universal Player aims to use AI to import "any existing console, PC, or mobile game" into Roblox and turn it into an instantly joinable multiplayer game on any device. Roblox Everywhere goes the other way: creators get to publish standalone Roblox-made games to other app stores, with the first select top games due in the first half of 2027. Web Play, a WebAssembly build of Roblox that starts with Chrome, will let a shared link drop a player straight into a game.
Why it matters
The letter doesn't hide that AI makes the hard part finding good games rather than making them. Roblox frames its discovery algorithm as the answer to what it openly calls "AI slop." By the end of Q3, about 40% of the weekly top 100 recommended games had been created in the last three months.
The business picture is mixed. Revenue was $1.6 billion, up 16% year over year, but bookings fell 12% against last year's viral hits, and the CFO flagged higher infrastructure spend in Q4 for Build, Roblox Reality and the Universal Player. Every adoption figure above is self-reported and comes without an independent check.
For anyone building on Roblox, the practical takeaway: MCP-driven workflows with an outside agent are now a top-20 route, Build lands in the US in December, and NPC playtesters trained on real player data are on the company's list.
What to watch
- The December US release of Build and its pricing tiers
- Whether Roblox opens its NPC playtesting and 3D asset diffusion models to creators in Studio
- Roblox Reality early access in the first half of 2027
