Introduction

Suno just gave composers a note-accurate on-ramp. On 2026-11-04, the company published Start Songs with MIDI and confirmed the same day on X — you can now kick off a track from a .mid / .midi file on the Create page instead of only text or uploaded audio.

That matters because MIDI carries pitch and timing with no audio sample — so Suno can follow (or reinterpret) the score itself, not a rendered WAV/MP3 performance.

What Shipped

  • Vendor / product: Suno — MIDI starts on Create
  • Modality: closed generative music (MIDI → full song)
  • Open vs closed: closed app / subscription feature (not open weights)
  • Runnable today: suno.com Create page — drag-and-drop a MIDI file or pick MIDI from the + menu
  • Concrete fact: at launch MIDI runs in Simple Create with v6-wild, and is available to Pro and Premier subscribers

Primary sources: the Nov 4 blog post and Suno’s X note (

).

How it differs from audio upload

Remix / Cover already takes WAV or MP3 and keeps some of your sound. MIDI is different:

  • The file is performance data only (notes, rhythm, controllers) — up to 16 channels with controller lanes
  • You steer fidelity in plain language: exact note follow-through, or “take the top-line motif and develop it”
  • Example blog prompts: full orchestra from a score MIDI; gospel choir + piano; string quartet that keeps the written chords

So a DAW export, student arrangement, or old band MIDI session can become a finished Suno render without first baking a dry VST bounce.

Run It

  1. Export or grab a .mid / .midi file from your DAW, notation app, or archive
  2. Open Create on Suno (Pro or Premier)
  3. Drag the file onto the prompt, or choose MIDI from the + menu
  4. Add a short instruction, e.g. “Arrange this MIDI for a full orchestra, with strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion.”
  5. Generate in Simple Create / v6-wild (launch path per the blog)

Transform this MIDI into a string quartet. Use the notes and chord
progressions exactly as they appear in the MIDI file.

Notes for makers

  • Launch path is Simple Create + v6-wild only; Suno says broader MIDI modes are planned
  • Pro / Premier gated — free tiers do not get MIDI starts at ship
  • MIDI cannot encode every articulation or timbre — expect the model to invent performance detail the file never had
  • Distinct from Remix/Cover of rendered audio and from Suno Speech (beta) — this is score-first music, not spoken-audio + soundtrack
  • No Gen CTA: Suno MIDI does not map to the Flux / Grok / MiniMax-H3 / Seedream / Seedance Gen loop

Conclusion

If your ideas already live as MIDI, Suno’s Nov 4 drop is the cleanest closed path to hear them as full songs today: drop a .mid on Create, steer with one sentence, and ship under v6-wild on Pro or Premier.
