Comfy's $25K Bounty to Open-Source Higgsfield Apps

Introduction
Some launches arrive with a press release. This one arrived with a gauntlet. On October 15, ComfyUI posted "Higgsfield promised to open-source their entire platform. They didn't. Let's help them," and backed it with $25,000 in prizes for the best open-source builds on the Comfy Developer Platform. The brief: rebuild Higgsfield-style creator apps such as Genjutsu and Cinema Studio (or invent your own), publish the repo with an open-source license, and let anyone run it.
The post pulled more than 420,000 views in its first day, and the challenge runs until October 30 at 9am PT. If you've ever wanted to turn a ComfyUI graph into a real app people can use, this is a two-week excuse with real hardware on the line.
What's Up for Grabs
The main prizes, per Comfy's competition page:
- Best Overall: $10,000 cash. Every entry is automatically considered.
- Most Innovative: a GeForce RTX 5090, for an app that's never been done, a novel custom node pack, or a fresh use of ComfyUI. Your demo video has to explain why it's innovative.
- Most Viral: a GeForce RTX 5090, for something delightful to use and made to be shared.
- Open Weights Only: a GeForce RTX 5090, for the best build with no partner nodes or closed-source APIs, open-weights models only.
- 10 runners-up: $250 in Comfy credits each.
Then come the model-partner bonuses, which stack on top of a main category:
- VFX workflow built with LTX: $2,000 cash, with LTX as the core video model.
- Built with FLUX: $1,000, $500 and $250 in FLUX API credits, with FLUX 3 as the core model.
- Built with MiniMax H3: $1,000 in MiniMax API credits, with H3 as the core model.
Winning entries get featured on the Comfy Hub with credit, and winners are announced November 6.
The Rules That Matter
- Build on the Comfy Developer Platform. That means some mix of Comfy API (deploy a workflow as a production endpoint), Comfy Router (one API for frontier image, video, 3D and audio models) and Builds (package nodes, LoRAs, models and Python dependencies into a reproducible bundle that runs on Comfy Desktop or deploys to Comfy API).
- Your repo needs an open-source license and setup instructions so someone else can actually run it.
- Partner models are allowed everywhere except the Open Weights Only category.
- The demo video is judged on the work, not the polish. Comfy says the best demo simply shows the app working and explains how it was built.
- Build Nights are optional. Comfy is hosting an in-person session at Frontier Tower in San Francisco on October 28 and one in Los Angeles with AI On The Lot on October 29, but the online competition is separate.
What to Build
Comfy's inspiration list reads like a Higgsfield feature menu, rebuilt in the open:
- Cinematic Studio: direct a shot like a film set, with camera moves you can actually control.
- Re-shoot a video: re-render an existing clip from a new angle.
- Openjutsu: an open take on Genjutsu-style motion transfer, where one performance drives a new cast.
A smart move is to pick one output people already love, like a performance effect, a signature camera move or a music-video transformation, then build the smallest app that lets someone else make their own version. Use the example apps on the Comfy Hub to see how others wired things up before you start.
The Backstory, Briefly
This is a public jab, so keep the context straight. The "they didn't" line is Comfy's framing. Higgsfield's own help center currently says its platform and models are proprietary and that there's no open-source version, while its GitHub carries developer tooling such as an MIT-licensed CLI and a skills repo rather than the generation platform itself. The two companies aren't strangers, either: we covered Higgsfield joining Comfy Router as a provider and the Genjutsu partner node landing in ComfyUI just days ago.
For builders, the drama matters less than the outcome: two weeks from now there should be a pile of licensed, forkable creator apps you can run on your own GPU.
How to Enter
- Sign up on the Open Source Higgsfield competition page.
- Build your app on the Comfy Developer Platform. Our explainer on Comfy API endpoints is a handy primer.
- Push a public repo with a license and setup steps, record a demo, and submit before October 30, 9am PT.

Conclusion
Comfy turned a rivalry into a build sprint: $10K for the best app, three RTX 5090s, and bonus credits for LTX, FLUX 3 and H3 workflows. If you've got a graph that already feels like a product, wrap it, license it and ship it. Open tools only get better when more of us fork them.
